Sailor Uranus: WORLD SHAKING
I've been super busy this month, halloween, birthdays coming up for a friend, a few requests for costumes, a request for animations (other than this one), I've made Amon's mask, and I've been trying to make a mold out of it, but I had a snafu on the last one, which was a few expensive mistakes... and its just a live and learn situation, and there's no getting around that, so I'm going to try again.

Thank you to :icondavisjes: for the suggestion, it was an interesting and fun challenge to recreate this particular piece of sailor moon animation.  Based on this reference…

I'm going to attempt another idea from someone else, and as soon as I have something to show I'll post a whole process on how I did the mask.
Sinned-angel-stock Lightning Inspiration
The contest is inspiration hosted by :iconsinned-angel-stock: and the deadline is Tomorrow...  If you haven't visited or seen any of her stock, she's fantastic, strong gestures, sensitive and powerful, and funny on occasion, go there and watch her and go through her backlog, seriously awesome stock to work with.

This animation didn't run away from me, it flew (10 hours in 2 days), I've been on overtime and weekend work for quite a while, and I'm just coming off of it after a vacation and I had in the back of my mind what I wanted to do or at least how I wanted to start, so when I perused the stock of the always badass sinned-angel-stock I picked out the major poses from this list

A few more I grabbed from her new USB stock collection* which you guys should totally go buy if they're not all sold out**

and I put them into context, and once I did, it became clear that this would be lightning, literally, and then between the stock photos and the story I was making up as I was roughing out the keys, I realized that sometimes there's the constant inspiration of what helps keep you motivated, and then there's the kind of inspiration that hits you like lightning.  Its this weird chill you get, or a moment of clarity, or just being excited to be doing what you're doing till its the only thing you're doing FOR the sake of doing it.

The constant motivation is seeing a master work, or a master's work.  I just got done with Korra Season 3 recently, and REWATCHED Avatar the Last Airbender again, and I'm still blown away by that show.  So much about it is what I want to do, and the world is so damn cool it makes me want to tell stories in it.  I love that series and world, and it drives me to make something someone else can love to the same degree some day.

And more so I want to share whatever I've learned with other people, in some degree, so I have to get better at understanding what I'm doing so I can explain why I do anything that I do.  Everything I put up here is kinda like my training under a waterfall.  I'll have another handout before the end of the month hopefully, so feedback, questions, subject matter, comments are all welcome in that regard.

The challenge here for this animation, is there are 4 layers, all of them are dependent on the initial person's poses, without doing that first I never would have been able to add hair, cloak, wings, LIGHTNING, so it makes sense right, build the foundation first, get the timing DOWN before you move onto the next thing so when you inevitably do have to tweak timing, you aren't tweaking 4 layers at once until you forgot something and demotivate yourself from the get go.

Hope everyone's projects are going well, I need a nap.
One Armed EarthBender Practice
Its been a long time since I did anything with the one armed Earthbender, but I haven't forgotten him at all.  AND with the inclusion of a double amputee waterbender in the new season of Korra, I'm not going to lie, I got really damn excited.   IF I SEE A one armed earthbender in the show I'd be super stoked and take credit all the time, even if none of my other one armed earthbender stuff ever made it to someone that works on the show.

I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel of overtime, since I got a weekend off, got to go to a small local cosplay con, and I got today off, I am ready to hit next week / this week with a brick.

Also spoiler free comment, I really loved this season of Korra, beginning to end it felt like the original Avatar, lots of ups and downs, traveling, humor, FEELINGS... not used to those, and knowing they're making a fourth season already and its already in production (or so I hear) makes me happy :)

Other korra related comment.  I cosplayed as Bolin this weekend, it was fun, and I am up in the air if I actually want to share them or not ^__^
SenshiStock Sketch Gestures by slyshand
SenshiStock Sketch Gestures
No overtime tonight, time to draw.

Tonight's stock provider doesn't require any introduction, but they deserve one nonetheless.
:iconsenshistock:   Featuring guest poses from :iconsinned-angel-stock:

Senshi released an app for gesture drawing featuring stock from her deviantart so the sources is this handydandy little link

You can set the time pause the images and all around sketch to your heart's content.  Senshi Sinned and some of senshi's male models (whom I don't know but would like to know if they have their own stock accounts :) ) have wonderfully exaggerated poses as they are, and a character and attitude comes through in just about every image making them an awful lot of fun to draw from.

The challenge is that the timer keeps you honest and when and if you guys are gesture drawing, you are racing a clock at 15 seconds just to get a stick figure you like, at 30 seconds you're pushing meat on to the bones of the stick figure, at a minute a drawing you are excited just to get cloths on the character and put some hair on their head, and finally at 2 minutes you can start pushing in some detail.  This was my experience and has been every time I do honestly timed gesture drawings.

Alright, I'm going to pass out, 4 more days I get a weekend off, and I become Major Armstrong again, and then the next day, BOLIN!
Gesture Drawings Ariel87-Stock by slyshand
Gesture Drawings Ariel87-Stock
This evening I present to you, gesture drawings outside of the realm of what I usually do, gestured environments.  I tried to avoid direct copies of the originals but I failed in some respects, but wanted to get the spirit of the thing across.  EVEN MORESO I wanted to test out some paint features of Manga Studio 5, just their watercolor brush is awesome and is fun to paint with.  The evening's model / photographer is :iconariel87-stock:  I like the fantasy based / big hoopy dresses and violins and locals and all of it, there's a ton of cool stuff, go there, pick through her collection, it's awesome ^__^

Pushing a story into each little gesture as fast as I drew it was fun, I liked the scene with the dragon, tiny as it may be ^__^  and there are little hidden things in there, "hidden" they're just tiny...…………………………………………………………………………

Personal life stuff:
I broke up with my girlfriend, there's a lot of sad that goes along with that :(  but in the end it'll be for the best I hope for both of us.  Work wise I am on overtime, from the looks of it, through to the end of the month.  This weekend I'll be working for sure, my regular days will consist of 10 to 12 hours and I won't have a whole hell of a lot of time to do everything I want, but last weekend I sculpted a bust of Major Armstrong out of clay.  And fuckdamn that was fun, I'm going to make a mold of him and then eventually made resin statues, and one really dorky plan to bring it out at a con WHILE dressed up as Major Armstrong.
I'm going to make a series on the actual process of animating, which I have already started here
