One Armed EarthBender Practice by slyshand One Armed EarthBender Practice by slyshand
Its been a long time since I did anything with the one armed Earthbender, but I haven't forgotten him at all.  AND with the inclusion of a double amputee waterbender in the new season of Korra, I'm not going to lie, I got really damn excited.   IF I SEE A one armed earthbender in the show I'd be super stoked and take credit all the time, even if none of my other one armed earthbender stuff ever made it to someone that works on the show.

I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel of overtime, since I got a weekend off, got to go to a small local cosplay con, and I got today off, I am ready to hit next week / this week with a brick.

Also spoiler free comment, I really loved this season of Korra, beginning to end it felt like the original Avatar, lots of ups and downs, traveling, humor, FEELINGS... not used to those, and knowing they're making a fourth season already and its already in production (or so I hear) makes me happy :)

Other korra related comment.  I cosplayed as Bolin this weekend, it was fun, and I am up in the air if I actually want to share them or not ^__^

:) Thank you

If you want to try, there's a lot of ways to start.
There's a free full animation program called opentoonz, google opentoonz and you will find links and tutorials. It has a lot of features but it is a really strong tool.

If you want something simpler that only has a demo for free, I paid money for a better version, digicel flipbook is fantastic, simple and quite fast.

Free and really simple program would be easytoon, its what I used to learn, it is quite old and there are probably better options but it's neat.

Books you should absolutely read

The Animator's Survival Kit
-All about animation-

Drawn to life 20 golden years of Disney Master Classes - Vol. 1 and Vol. 2
-All about gesture drawing, and staying loose, and ideas and experiece from a 20 year veteran of disney-

Acting for Animators
-After you get through those books, its a good book, and it gives you a good mindset for animation in general.-

--------------------------------------

You draw nicely, I think the Drawn to Life books would be a really good read :)

Hey man, saw your earthbender a year ago and I absolutely loved him. SOOO exited to hear about the waterbender as well. You can say no to this but a while back I drew the one armed earthbender with different types of earth. Like sand, crystal ect. But I never got to post them on my page. Will it be ok if I posted them on now and still say that you where the main idea behind the character? If you have a look at my art you will see that I will not disappoint you:D

Really nice weight and follow through! Can I ask what you use to animate? I use Photoshop to animate, but I feel like there are probably more time-efficient programs for frame-by-frame animation that I could experiment with Bucktooth
Again, great work! Avatar is great for inspiring animation ideas huh :)

Thank you very much ^__^
And I use Digicel Flipbook, their website has some pretty comprehensive tutorials of all of their features, and as far as efficiency goes it is rather fast at getting the timing down.  Not the best tools for painting but pricing wise it is unbeatable.  If you sketch it out and time it out in flipbook and clean color and finish in photoshop it'd take a while but it could worth it.

If you have 1000+ dollars to blow, TVPaint (once you get used to the work flow) is quite efficient and has some wonderful painting tools.

The avatar world is so full of potential for animation and kung fu and fun things ^__^

Thanks for replying ^_^

I'll take a look at Digicel Flipbook, I've heard lots of good things so it's probably about time I do haha
Maybe one day I'll save up enough for TVPaint.. ^^;

Thanks again :)
