Roy Mustang Style snap by slyshand Roy Mustang Style snap by slyshand
2 notes about this.  I rotoscoped the major key frames from reference I took.  I re-timed it to be more conducive to the action I wanted for the snap.  Having never rotoscoped anything before, but being very experienced in motion capture, the process is the same.  Take the action given as it is performed only if it is amazing, otherwise re-time it fix poses, add real inbetweens and personality, make what was a real life motion and turn it into a believable action.

Things I learned, the jitters are really hard to avoid when you are tracing similar images, and when only using 15 original photos as reference and the total frame count being 76, its a lot of legitimate animation.

And personally I'm working through some stuff, finished animating this and now I am on the edge of passing out.  More long days ahead.

This is also my 150th digital animation I've posted.

Would never have guessed it to be rotoscoped, there's some nice exaggeration, especially in the frame where all the fingers overextend in the whip action.

Its important to use rotoscope for extremes, and retiming, then you animate the inbetweens appropriately :)

The extremes tell the story and the inbetweens give it character.

You musn't beat yourself over the head, this. I have seen what it takes to do animation, and may I say it is WAY HARDER than it looks. Also, the way it twitches gives it a cool look, like that famous music video for “Take On Me." Worked out really well IMO

That is coo! I am practicing animation myself at the moment again, as I want to come up with a minute short. Anyone , who looks down on rotoscoping, obviously never tried it. Very hard, even if you are good at drawing.
